An enchanting path was created from a dull, east-facing plot. This relatively shaded area was the perfect setting to create a meandering path bordered by native and non-native shrubs, perennials and bulbs. Native plants included swamp dogwood (Cornus foemina) and myrsine (Myrsine guianensis). Two unusual non-natives were leeia (Leeia coccinea), which is the burgundy-leaved shrub down the path on the right, and Kopsia fruticosa, a pink-flowered shrub related to Allamanda. The soil was not acidic enough, so Camellias were installed in pots with acidic soil. Caladiums were used as an accent at the feet of the pots, and blood lily (Scadoxus multiflorus) were tucked in among some shrubs.
